As we go into the New Year and alot of people are thinking about self care and self improvement. I wanted to talk about makeup and what it means to me. Makeup is a form of self care for me, I wear it because it makes me feel good. It has nothing to do with how I look, it's all about how it makes me feel. Makeup is something that I do for myself.
I love testing new products, figuring out what works for me and what doesn't. I love the adventure of trying a new eye look out, trying a new foundation or a new makeup technique. I'm not a makeup artist, but I really enjoy learning about new techniques. Testing new brushes out is exciting to me. I will literally play with brushes and see which shader brush picks up the most pigment. I will try new blending brushes to see if they will work with my eye shape. Bases, I like seeing what base brings out the most color in a shadow. It's fun, it's an adventure and I feel like I'm always learning.
Makeup is an outlet. My blog allows me to be creative and to engage with a community. I turn to Youtube for tutorials and inspiration. Makeup isn't a "one size fits all" and that's why I feel like the beauty community is so diverse. Makeup is worn by all ages and it's never too late to learn. I started wearing makeup regularly after I had my son, and I was SO TIRED. I went back to work and needed to find something for me. I was always an avid reader, but when it came time to read, I was so tired, I couldn't do it. I needed something else and Youtube opened up this whole makeup world to me. I turned to bloggers because I was a book blogger for 8 years and I missed it.
If you've always loved makeup but don't know where to start. Start small. I started with concealer to hide my dark circles, and eyeshadow. If you're worried people will comment because you're new to wearing makeup. They might, but people will get use to seeing you with makeup and they'll move on. Do it for yourself. If it makes you feel good, go ahead.
