I've been struggling with my makeup collection lately. It had become overwhelming and too much. I stopped my Boxycharm because I noticed I wasn't using the products. They were put away and forgotten. I don't have alot of space for makeup and decided I needed to organize. I decluttered around 10 palettes and gave them away to family. I had this letter stand on my dresser with another 4 drawer unit and I decided to only have this letter stand with one drawer on my dresser. This unit has become my "weekly" basket and getting ready in the morning has been great. It has lots of space for palettes which are my favorite, and the drawer holds the smaller stuff I use. I do have two foundations on my dresser as well. When it's time to get ready, I'm no longer overwhelmed and can quickly find what I need.
I'm also on a low buy because makeup is makeup. I have to realize that I'm an average makeup wearer and there's no point to have such a huge collection. I'll admit that eyeshadow and face palettes are a weakness, but I need to be more selective. It's so easy to get caught up in buying more and more products but if you're not able to enjoy them, what's the point? If I'm going to use a product, write a review and put it away...I'm not enjoying it. I'm trying to follow this in different areas of my life as well. I've been decluttering and cleaning and that's what I do when I get overwhelmed.
Being on a low buy does make me wonder where this blog will go. I don't want to feel like I need to buy products to keep this blog going. I'll have to come up with some creative content. I'm not ready to give up on this blog, but it's not going to be an excuse to buy more products. I'm a much happier person when I have organization. I do well when every thing in my home, has a home and can be easily put away.
What do you think of your collection? Do you need to declutter?
I really don't think that you need to continuously shop for the blog - you can do edits, favourites and so much more with what you have! xx

I've also been ruthless with my makeup lately, I've thrown so much away and given hardly used products to friends, I just became overwhelmed by the sheer amount of makeup I had!

ReplyDeleteI don't have a very large collection but I see it is slowly growing. I try to be reasonable with my purchase. My weakness is lipsticks but I have started controlling it as well. :-) Lovely post Jennifer, you are right makeup is makeup and the brands are coming up with new stuff every time.:-)
ReplyDeleteI always need to declutter. Luckily make up is not my thing to buy a lot of, even so last week I got rid of a few lipsticks and the next time i do any cleaning I am getting rid of several mascaras ! I am pretty sure they've expired.
