NYX Cosmetics recently added two palettes (Ash and Phoenix) to the Ultimate Shadow palettes. Ash is a cool-toned palette, and Phoenix is the one that immediately grabbed my attention. I'm always so drawn to warm red sunset colour stories. This was my first time trying the Ultimate Shadow palettes from NYX, previously I tried the Multi-Finish palette which I did like. This palette consists of 16 shades including matte, shimmer and metallic shadows. 

If you're looking for a drugstore option this is a very nice palette. The mattes are nicely pigmented and vibrant, they build and blend very well. The shimmers were also nice, but I wish it had more metallic shades. The metallic rose gold shade is stunning, and I would have liked more shades like that in the palette. This is just personal preference, I love foiled metallic lid shades. I also wish it had a darker colour to add a liner and/or darkening up the eye look. I  felt like I only had one charcoal colour to choose. I love when palettes have a dark chocolate brown shade and I felt like this palette could have used one.

Overall, I do see myself using this palette and keeping it in my collection. I think it's a great drugstore option. It reminds me of the Natasha Denona Sunset palette, or the Colourpop Yes, Please palette. This sunset colour story is one that really catches my eye. The mattes are really nice, and the shimmers good. It doesn't swatch the greatest but it does perform well. When it comes to lasting power, I also had no issues. I think NYX has been improving with these palettes, and I'm excited to see their new launches.
