Magnolia Parks by Jesse Hastings [Book Review]

Magnolia Parks is a complicated book, my friends. One that will make you want to toss the book aside, you’ll wonder why so many readers are obsessing over it, but one that you’ll keep thinking about and one that you’ll want to discuss with someone. If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, this book will immediately remind you of Logan Huntzberger and his circle of friends. Wealthy kids who are always in the same social circles just because of who they are and the connections they have.

In this book; we have the beautiful socialite Magnolia Parks and her circle including her ex-boyfriend BJ Ballentine. They’re introduced to the reader as soulmates and ‘meant to be' but it’s also very well known that he cheated on her and they’ve never been able to move past it. Magnolia dates around, and he hooks up with women constantly. Both are trying to hurt each other - every step of the way. Both of them, never trying to actually move on - they’re stuck in this toxic relationship.

As I was reading this book, I kept wondering if I was supposed to root for them to get back together. This type of relationship should never be tolerated in real life, and throughout the book, I needed these characters to realize that this couldn’t continue. I needed them to move past each other or I needed a redemption story for me to justify them getting back together. I was throughout entertained, but I will warn you this is not a “happily ever after” story.

This is a story for those who like character-driven stories. There’s cheating, drugs, and overdose mentioned. This is also the first book in a series. The second book is called Daisy Haites, and the third is The Long Way Home. In the second book; we have Daisy Haites relationship with Christian and the third focuses again on Magnolia and BJ. I’m not sure if I will continue the series or not. I probably will but I need a break from the dysfunction.

Friends be warned when you go into this one, it’s not your typical romance and this is a long read.
